FMPA AWARD WINNERS 2018

MEDICINE & PERFORMANCE TEAM AWARD

This first category emphasises the part played by the medical and performance teams in their clubs’ successes. It is worth pointing out that ALL our members work extremely hard – across all of the disciplines and across each of the divisions – and that these awards therefore can only be a snapshot of the fantastic work we undertake each and every season.

As an association it is vital that we recognise and promote the work of our members in Professional Football. It is incumbent on us therefore to make sure that colleagues in the game recognise too that our members endeavours are synonymous with a teams success, and that they collectively make a significant contribution to the overall “team “effort that results in that success.

MEMBERS AWARD

This award is designed to recognise the exceptional contribution of a medical and performance team within a Club. Where they have worked as a unit, pulled together as a team, achieved great results, worked under extenuating circumstances, been innovative or worked beyond the call of duty then they deserve recognition.

That this comes from fellow colleagues in the game makes this is a particularly rewarding accolade.

EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

On occasion a Club or Team will achieve outstanding success over and above what may be expected or anticipated. This award recognises that success and the role of the Medicine and Performance team in supporting and playing a part in that success

2017 was a year of unprecedented success for England’s men’s development teams.  The U17’s were runners up in the Euro Finals and Won the Toulon Tournament.  The U21’s reached the Euro semi finals.  The U19’s became Euro Champions in Georgia.  The U20’s returned from South Korea as World Champions and the U18’s repeated the feat and won the World Cup in India.  2017 culminated in England being officially ranked as the best men’s youth team in Europe and were awarded the prestigious Maurice Burlaz Trophy by UEFA..  The honour is handed to the national association who top Europe’s rankings based on results from men’s youth competition from the previous two years and was the first time England had achieved the title in its 27-year history.

LONGSTANDING SERVICE AWARD

Dr Ian Irving

AMAT

EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE AWARD

This award aims to recognise the work of a practitioner who has undertaken work of an exceptional nature within their field of practice. They may have worked beyond the call of duty, excelled within a particular aspect of their practice or been called upon to push the boundaries of their discipline to the highest level. Given the precarious nature of our working environment such acts of exceptional service no doubt occurs every season. This should be acknowledged.

One member of a performance team has typified the departmental desire of doing what it takes to win. Working with a team that wins the world Cup would usually be a once in a lifetime experience. This individual was Lead Physiotherapist for the U20’s team who were victorious in the World Cup South Korea and then doubled his medal tally at the U18 World Cup in India.  He was tireless in his efforts to keep the players on the pitch with both his excellent clinical skills but with his own unique teambuilding techniques.  He is universally respected and liked by players and colleagues alike and happy to make personal sacrifices for the sake of the team.
