Profile

As a qualified Sports Therapist, I have over thirteen years of consolidated experience within the sports medicine setting, principally in professional football. I began my clinical experience in private practice as a Physiotherapy Assistant in 2009, progressing to work as the practice Sports Therapist upon graduating in 2013. During this time, I was sub-contracted to provide weekly injury clinics and pitch-side medical cover for National League club Gateshead FC U19s which led to the offer of a full-time role. I subsequently accepted a position as Head of Medical at Gateshead FC where I managed the department for five competitive seasons and, as clinical lead, was responsible for all aspects of medical care to the First Team and U19s playing squads. I have since continued to work in professional football at two Category One Academies, namely Sunderland AFC and Middlesbrough FC where I worked with players across the Youth and Professional Development Phases including advanced PDP players involved at First Team level which kept me immersed in and around the senior First Team environment. Most recently I have returned to a senior First Team role, now working as lead Sports Therapist with Sunderland AFC Women. My extensive experience demonstrates that I am a versatile practitioner who is adept when working both autonomously and as part of a large multidisciplinary sport science and medical team. To me, the most fulfilling part of working in professional football is successfully returning my players to their chosen sport after injury and helping them achieve optimum levels of fitness and performance.
